Mega Prime Pinasarap Holiday - Bringing Joy into Everyone's Christmas Celebrations

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the natural disasters that hit our country, our Christmas observance may be more toned down but that doesn’t mean that it is any less joyful. Christmas, after all, is about sharing life’s blessings with loved ones, regardless of the challenges the world is facing.

To bring joy into everyone’s Christmas celebrations, Mega Prime held an early Christmas event and its 5th workshop for the media, influencers, Prime Mom Club members, and the general public through Mega Prime Pinasarap Holiday last November 14.

Recognizing that moms want to make their holiday celebrations delightful despite the current situation, Mega Prime and the Prime Mom Club decided to push through with the online workshop in order to continue to empower moms with ideas and recipes to make Christmas extra special this year.

The hybrid event, which also served as a thanksgiving celebration, included an exclusive workshop attended by the media, influencers, and PMC members, where Kaye Ang of Mamacademy PH shared her thoughts on launching passion projects alongside motherhood as a way to encourage moms pursue their own passion and business.

The next half was opened to the general public via live streaming on Mega Prime’s Facebook Page. Celebrity Chef and Brand Ambassador, Chef Rosebud Benitez shared different refreshing and kid- friendly mocktail recipes which we were all encouraged to make at home.

Due to the demands of the fast-paced learning in schools, students nowadays especially the older ones who don't have packed lunches opt for fast or junk foods to fill their stomachs and to save time. To be awake and alert all the time, most of them already drink coffee or energy drinks as boosters. It is already proven that energy drinks can affect kidney health and it's not advised to drink it a few times each day. It's okay to take coffee for caffeine boost once in a while but too much may give you the opposite effect.

Students must be encouraged to observe proper diet and nutrition to sustain their growing cells and enhance their memory and thinking. It's already given that oxygen is critically needed by the brain cells to be alive and to function well. Aside from oxygen, the following sources of nutrition are proven needed by the brain for development and learning:

Tyrosine

The body uses tyrosine to make chemical messengers that are involved in conditions involving the brain such as mental alertness. It is usually found in protein-rich food. - Always keep in mind that you pick up perishables last at the supermarket especially if you live far. Be careful in handling them between purchase and home storage. It’s a rule that if you are going to travel for at least 25 miles, bring an ice chest with you to keep your purchased perishables from getting stale.

- Follow the “First in, first out,” rule. It follows every food item, perishable or not. When you unload your grocery food purchases, be sure to place the new items behind previously purchased ones of the same kind. By doing this, it’s easier for you to reach for the older items in front of your refrigerator, freezer, or pantry.

- Don’t buy food items that are for sale after the expiration date.

- Food items on sale are usually nearly expiring. Make sure to consume them immediately after purchasing or within the time frame that they are still consumable.

- Always check the label. Be conscious about the food items’ manufacturing and expiration dates to make sure that you are buying new and best stocks.

- Never buy canned goods that have dents. This may indicate that the contents have problems.

- Never buy canned goods that are sticky. It is a sign of possible leaks.

- Never buy food items with broken seals, torn packages, or with the presence of holes because they are already contaminated. They are probably caused by pests or improper handling.

- If you accidentally purchased expired goods, canned goods with sticky or dented cans, food items whose wrappers are broken, it is your right to return them to the establishment where you have purchased them.

- Always check thoroughly the eggs that you are going to purchase. Buy the ones that are refrigerated or placed in the coldest portion of the establishment. Make sure that they have no cracks or foul smell.

- Buy meat, poultry, and seafood from markets supplied by the government-approved sources.

- Only buy food from clean and sanitized markets and stores. Check if they handle and store perishables properly.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 8 hours, or even overnight. Then, make mango puree by combining in a blender maple syrup and slices of mango. Blend them until smooth. Layer the chia pudding and mango puree in a container and leave it to sit for around 15 minutes. Afterward, enjoy this tasty, healthy treat!

Bunso has been dealing with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder for the last four years. Having habits that linger or recurrent is part of his condition. We have already accepted that. What Paps and I hope and pray is that he may continue to improve as he enjoys his life every day.

As days pass, we discover little by little his love for cooking. I know that it is an answered prayer. Paps and I would always say when we converse about Bunso, "We hope that he continues to be functional. We hope that one day, he can discover the passion that he wants to focus on, something that he can do for a living. So that when the day comes that we are no longer here in this world, he will not be a burden to his brother and he will live independently and happily."

Cooking particularly making desserts is what Bunso likes to do best. He feels giddy whenever we give him a chance to watch his favorite YouTuber, Kusina Chef. He would imitate her as she talks while imagining himself making desserts on his own. He would tell us that he is going to crack and beat the eggs, mix the ingredients, or assemble them all by himself whenever Paps or I cook.

So when the Mr. Hat Gulaman gift pack arrived right on our doorstep, he was really very excited probably because he saw this particular brand in Kusina Chef's YouTube channel and he couldn't wait to use them himself!

He couldn't contain himself when I told him that he would be making his own desserts using Mr. Hat Gulaman. He was so excited doing all the processes--- from buying ingredients up to the taste test with a little assistance from me, of course, especially in the steps where using sharp objects were required. I asked him what desserts he would like to prepare. He told me that he would love to do Mango Float and Strawberry Ice Cream. I requested him to prepare Peach-Mango Float.

Here are the recipes.

Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Float and Peach-Mango Float

Ingredients:

1 can Condensed milk (300 ml)

2 packs of 250ml all-purpose cream

2 packs of 220 grams Graham Crackers 4 pieces sweet mangoes, sliced

2-3 cups of crushed graham crackers

Additional Ingredient:

Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Jelly Powder

This ingredient made the Mango Float more sturdy. The cream won't run easily too.

Procedure:

1. In a bowl combine cream, condensed milk, and about three tablespoons of jelly powder dissolved in a little cream; mix until well incorporated.

2. Cover and place it inside the freezer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. The texture should be thick.

3. In a deep dish or deep container arrange the graham crackers. Spread 1/2 cup cream mixture; arrange the mangoes on the of the cream and repeat the steps for the second layer. and cover it with crushed graham crackers.

4. Decorate it, cover with plastic wrapper, and chill overnight.

The video below served his inspiration in creating his very own Mango Float:

For the Peach-Mango Float, we followed the same recipe and procedure but we lacked mangoes so the Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Jelly Powder served as a substitute for them. We used canned sliced peaches.

Mr. Hat Gulaman Strawberry Gelato

We used Kusina Chef's Oreo Ice Cream Recipe as an inspiration for this.

Ingredients:

300 ml whipping cream

1/2 can of condensed milk

1 tbsp vanilla

3 pcs. Oreo, crushed

Procedure:

1. In a mixing bowl combine the whipping cream, condensed milk, and vanilla.

2. Whip it until nice and thick.

3. Fold Oreo into the whipped cream.

4. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container.

5. Optional: Cover with a plastic wrap.

6. Cover the container with the lid.

7. Place it inside the freezer overnight.

8. Enjoy!

Instead of crushed Oreos, we used one pack of SM Bonus Frozen Strawberry. Before making it into a puree, I boiled it first in a cup of water and added one pack of Mr. Hat Gulaman Strawberry Jelly Powder. We omitted the vanilla and added extra tablespoons of condensed milk to lessen the sourness of the strawberry.

It was obvious that Bunso had fun creating his own desserts using Mr. Hat Gulaman Jelly Powder as much as he loved eating them.
