Our eyelashes grow at a very slow rate in comparison to hair on other parts of the body. This being said, eyelashes are one of the most important facial hair. They protect the eyes from insects and other particles in the atmosphere that may cause harm to the eye. Moreover, they are considered a beauty aspect. For this reason, most women use cosmetics and even artificial eyelashes to enhance their thickness and length. However, this should not be the case. The length of eyelashes can in various natural ways be enhanced, the most basic being consumption of foods rich in vitamins.

We may ask ourselves, “What veggies cause eyelashes to grow?” Well, the answer lies in the
nutrients contained in the vegetables. Vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals are considered the best for hair growth. This is because vitamins and minerals are great agents of healthy hair growth in the body. Thus, their inclusions in the foods we eat go a long way in maintaining and enhancing hair growth. The most common vitamins and minerals involved in enhancing the growth of eyelashes include:

Biotin

It is a vitamin that enhances cell growth by producing fatty acids. For healthier, thicker and strong eyelashes, biotin absorbs carbohydrates and amino acids that are present in the body. Eating foods such as legumes and bananas is advised to acquire the biotin vitamin.

Vitamin B complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12)

They improve blood circulation in the body. In turn, this increases the circulation of nutrients round the body including the eyelids thus affecting the eyelashes positively. They assist in the lengthening of the eyelashes by preventing them from drying and breaking off. In addition, they assist in the metabolism of keratin, which is responsible for the formation of hair on the body. Vitamin B complex has the ability to make hair strong and shiny.

Zinc

Zinc moisturizes the eyelashes through facilitating sebum production thus combating brittleness. It encourages protein synthesis thus assisting in cell regeneration leading to healthier and longer eyelashes. Zinc supplements the absorption of vitamins, which further encourages the growth of eyelashes.

Iron

It prevents loss of hair including eyelashes. It prevents the emergence of anemia, which would otherwise interfere with the circulation of nutrients to the eyelids through the blood.

Other than the consumption of foods rich in vitamins and minerals, there are other ways of ensuring healthy eyelashes.

The Vaseline solution: The individual is required to apply Vaseline petroleum jelly to the eyelids before retiring to bed. A clean mascara brush should be used for the application.

Massage your eyelids regularly to relax your muscles and increase blood circulation to your eyelids. This will lead to stronger and healthier eyelids.

Remove facial makeup before going to sleep especially around the eyes. Staying with eye makeup such as mascara overnight will deprive your eyelashes moisture thus making them brittle.

Application of natural oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil help in lengthening the eyelashes. This is because they contain vitamins and minerals all of which are essential for hair growth. Moreover, they moisturize the eyelashes making them healthy and strong.

To make your eyelashes grow long, you should look into the type of care they give to your eyes. Use only the best quality cosmetics as your eye makeup. Substandard cosmetics could not only affect your eyelashes’ growth, but also the state of your eyes. Ensure you practice good eye hygiene. Cleansing the face especially around the eyes keeps the lashes clean and allows them to grow healthy. Consume a well-balanced diet will give the eyelashes the nutrients they need to grow long, thick, and healthy. Undoubtedly, proper eye care is the key to gorgeous, long, luscious eyelashes.
