Crunchy Tofu Fritters

There are moments in my life as a mom that I couldn't go out to do grocery shopping on time due to unforeseen change in our schedule. When I open the fridge, there is literally nothing or barely nothing to cook and serve for snacks.

It happened again before the holidays. We only had few vegetables and a block of tofu. I was planning to fry it that I usually do but I wanted to make it a little different to make it more special and appetizing.

I went to the pantry and saw ingredients that might help. I had no choice but to do an inventive dish again to give my boys a healthy snack.

Ingredients

500 g Tofu block

2 cups cornstarch

salt, ground pepper, dehydrated minced onion or onion powder (AMOUNT BASED ON YOUR TASTE PREFERENCE)

2 cups canola oil

sweet chili sauce (dip)

A-Mark Dehydrated Minced Onion is available at all SM Supermarkets nationwide. I always have this at home. I use this as substitute for or together with fresh onions. My kids don't notice that they eat onions when I put this in my dishes. Del Monte Sweet Chili Sauce is our choice because it's not too spicy nor sweet. Both of them are so affordable too.

 Procedure

1. Heat oil for deep frying.

2. Cut tofu block into thin squares.

3. Mix dry ingredients together- cornstarch, salt, ground pepper, and dehydrated minced onion or onion powder in a big bowl.

4. Coat tofu slices with prepared breading.

5. Deep fry in hot oil until slightly brown. Don't overcook. Overcooking will make the tofu tough.

6. Place in paper towels to drain excess oil.

6. Serve hot with your favorite sweet chili sauce.

This recipe was a hit! My eldest son, Ross, liked it so much that he almost finished everything on the plate!

My Tofu Fritters can be a healthier snack option that can satisfy your craving for chips. They are crunchy outside and chewy inside.

Try this recipe! It's good!
