Sweet Joy by Caryl: Taste the Love at First Bite

I've been living in the Metro since 1999 and doesn't have the chance to communicate often with my batch mates. Despite being unable to keep in touch, they have a special place in my heart and can never be forgotten because they are part of who I am as a person.

One friend that I truly miss and brings me fond memories is Caryl Joy Perez. She is sweet, quiet, and a person who brightens up my day with a smile. She doesn't talk that much but she is more than just a peace loving and huggable lass.

Last year, I learned that she was the one who baked the cupcakes for our batch reunion (I was so sad not being able to make it!). I got excited and happy to know  that she did. The cupcakes were divine as how they looked according to my best friend, Heidi Tobias Valenzuela. This made me more excited to ask Caryl herself about her life as a baker. During our 20th batch anniversary, she made the reunion cupcakes again and I regret not being able to taste it for the second time around.

Here's her story. Humble as she is, she considers her life as a baker unsuccessful yet and still at the stage of practicing her craft. She says that she caters to friends and loved ones who don't want to purchase extremely expensive cupcakes during special occasions. Her cupcakes start at Php35.oo each, way cheaper than the ones being sold at famous bakeshops and stalls in malls. It is her way of introducing her goodies and she believes that the best way to be known is through word of mouth.

She remembers that her Mom and aunt used to bake the family's cakes. This is the reason why she is inspired in pursuing to be a pastry chef. Being a baker runs her the blood. Her relatives on her father's side are bakers too.

One time out of curiosity, she ordered a box of Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cheese Frosting and the cost was Php75.00 each. She wasn't satisfied with the taste and this prompted her to enroll in a baking class in Cabanatuan City after being taught by her baker cousin to be able to enjoy and sell great-tasting baked goodies that are very affordable for all in mind.

Caryl exclaims that being a baker has lots of demands and  requires perseverance and hard work. Investing in good baking tools and equipment is next to further studies and regular practice which breaks her wallet but it's all worth it.

There are times when she feels giving up due to health reasons but she still follows what her heart desires.

Let me show you the photos of her goodies and for sure, you're going to agree with me that "Photos pa lang busog ka na!"
