Chia seeds are the latest addition to today’s superfood craze. The seeds are derived from the Salvia hispanica, a type of mint that’s believed to have originated from Central America. These tiny powerhouses have plenty of benefits, which have contributed to its popularity. Case in point, PrettyMe's list of the many benefits of chia seeds notes how the superfood contains important minerals like calcium and zinc, as well as other healthy compounds such as caffeic acid (for inflammation) and chlorogenic acid (to lower blood pressure). They’re also full of antioxidants, which can slow down skin aging.

The best thing about chia seeds, however, is how you don’t need a huge amount to reap the health perks. This is why, instead of eating them by themselves, people have opted to mix the seed into food they already eat, making them extremely easy to add to your diet. Here are five ways to do that:

The easiest way to add chia seeds into your diet is to make it part of your drinking water, or favorite juices. Just dunk some pieces into your beverage for around 20 to 30 minutes, and the seeds will soften enough to easily consume. You won't even have to worry about the chia seeds affecting the taste of your drink, as they have a very mild, subtle taste that can actually complement whatever you're drinking — even water!

Some smoothies aren't just healthy, but they're also filling enough to sustain you for hours — just like a snack. Luckily, chia seeds are rich in fiber — the only thing other than sugar and starch that fills you up, which means they can certainly make your smoothie work overtime on the health benefits. Just make sure to soak them in water or your ready-made smoothie concoction overnight, so they’re nice and gelatinous the following day.

Chia pudding is one of the most popular, and delicious, ways to consume chia seeds. The best part is that you can make one easily. To get you started, here is a yummy, All Recipe-approved mango chia pudding recipe. Stir in a bowl almond milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla extract, and chia seeds. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 8 hours, or even overnight. Then, make mango puree by combining in a blender maple syrup and slices of mango. Blend them until smooth. Layer the chia pudding and mango puree in a container and leave it to sit for around 15 minutes. Afterward, enjoy this tasty, healthy treat!

Like in the case of smoothies, chia seeds make good toppings on your morning bowl of cereal. They lack the artificial sweetness from most store-bought cereals, but they do provide an added crunch along with a laundry list of benefits. If you want to get even more creative with your meal, you can throw in a small serving of maple syrup, honey, or vanilla extract on top.

Like we said, chia seeds are crunchy when they’re not soaked, making them perfect for adding some texture into your salad, too. Alternatively, you can also mix them into your salad dressing. Bunso has been dealing with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder for the last four years. Having habits that linger or recurrent is part of his condition. We have already accepted that. What Paps and I hope and pray is that he may continue to improve as he enjoys his life every day.

As days pass, we discover little by little his love for cooking. I know that it is an answered prayer. Paps and I would always say when we converse about Bunso, "We hope that he continues to be functional. We hope that one day, he can discover the passion that he wants to focus on, something that he can do for a living. So that when the day comes that we are no longer here in this world, he will not be a burden to his brother and he will live independently and happily."

Cooking particularly making desserts is what Bunso likes to do best. He feels giddy whenever we give him a chance to watch his favorite YouTuber, Kusina Chef. He would imitate her as she talks while imagining himself making desserts on his own. He would tell us that he is going to crack and beat the eggs, mix the ingredients, or assemble them all by himself whenever Paps or I cook.

So when the Mr. Hat Gulaman gift pack arrived right on our doorstep, he was really very excited probably because he saw this particular brand in Kusina Chef's YouTube channel and he couldn't wait to use them himself!

He couldn't contain himself when I told him that he would be making his own desserts using Mr. Hat Gulaman. He was so excited doing all the processes--- from buying ingredients up to the taste test with a little assistance from me, of course, especially in the steps where using sharp objects were required. I asked him what desserts he would like to prepare. He told me that he would love to do Mango Float and Strawberry Ice Cream. I requested him to prepare Peach-Mango Float.

Here are the recipes.

Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Float and Peach-Mango Float

Ingredients:

1 can Condensed milk (300 ml)

2 packs of 250ml all-purpose cream

2 packs of 220 grams Graham Crackers 4 pieces sweet mangoes, sliced

2-3 cups of crushed graham crackers

Additional Ingredient:

Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Jelly Powder

This ingredient made the Mango Float more sturdy. The cream won't run easily too.

Procedure:

1. In a bowl combine cream, condensed milk, and about three tablespoons of jelly powder dissolved in a little cream; mix until well incorporated.

2. Cover and place it inside the freezer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. The texture should be thick.

3. In a deep dish or deep container arrange the graham crackers. Spread 1/2 cup cream mixture; arrange the mangoes on the of the cream and repeat the steps for the second layer. and cover it with crushed graham crackers.

4. Decorate it, cover with plastic wrapper, and chill overnight.

The video below served his inspiration in creating his very own Mango Float:

For the Peach-Mango Float, we followed the same recipe and procedure but we lacked mangoes so the Mr. Hat Gulaman Mango Jelly Powder served as a substitute for them. We used canned sliced peaches.

Mr. Hat Gulaman Strawberry Gelato

We used Kusina Chef's Oreo Ice Cream Recipe as an inspiration for this.

Ingredients:

300 ml whipping cream

1/2 can of condensed milk

1 tbsp vanilla

3 pcs. Oreo, crushed

Procedure:

1. In a mixing bowl combine the whipping cream, condensed milk, and vanilla.

2. Whip it until nice and thick.

3. Fold Oreo into the whipped cream.

4. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container.

5. Optional: Cover with a plastic wrap.

6. Cover the container with the lid.

7. Place it inside the freezer overnight.

8. Enjoy!

Instead of crushed Oreos, we used one pack of SM Bonus Frozen Strawberry. Before making it into a puree, I boiled it first in a cup of water and added one pack of Mr. Hat Gulaman Strawberry Jelly Powder. We omitted the vanilla and added extra tablespoons of condensed milk to lessen the sourness of the strawberry.

It was obvious that Bunso had fun creating his own desserts using Mr. Hat Gulaman Jelly Powder as much as he loved eating them.

What we like about Mr. Hat Gulaman Jelly Powder especially the flavored ones is that they taste like real fruits which is advantageous because they can enhance the good flavor of any dessert that we make. Ang Nagbabalik: John Lloyd Cruz is Coming Back to the Limelight with His First Endorsement After Two Years

The rumors are true! Finally, matinee idol John Lloyd Cruz is going back to the limelight after two years of being in hiatus from show business since 2017.

His fans, including yours truly, are excited about his return. A great actor and a very effective endorser like him is definitely an asset in the Philippine cinema and advertising industry. Would you believe that when a teaser video which showed his back shot was posted in the Facebook page of the number one selling shawarma, Turks, a few weeks ago has been viewed 3.2 million times, shared almost 800 times, and gained a huge number of comments? Amazing, isn't it?

Then yesterday morning, Turks finally revealed in the 1 minute and 17-second video of John Lloyd Cruz showing him walking through different destinations, which somehow depicted his stopovers. The video was very simple yet dramatic and in a very subtle shot, he stopped and took a bite of a Turks Pita Doner.

The rugged look of Cruz in the Turks video titled "Ang Nagbabalik" is way too far from his guy-next-door image and a lot of people in the industry are asking if this signals his return to the limelight. His fans are still curious about the life he’s been living since his hiatus.

According to Turks president Gem L. Zenarosa that during the course of his talks with Cruz, they never talked anything about his showbiz career or plans. He added that he got him as the latest ambassador of Turks because of his great confidence working with him. He was grateful that Cruz, a brilliant, talented, and very creative young man trusts Turks.

"Ang Nagbabalik" according to Zenarosa is actually about Turks Small Pita Doner, which will be available again in all its branches.

Zenarosa stressed that Cruz would be the best endorser for this because like him, despite his absence in the show business for a couple of years, the warmth and love of his fans for him never diminishes. With Turks' Small Pita Doner he believes that customers will be happy to know that it is back in its menu.

Just like John Lloyd Cruz who is seen to have a different image since he last appeared in the big screen, a clear indication that the actor is recreating himself and exploring different grounds, Turks is also doing the same thing to keep its customers excited whenever they visit a branch.

In time for the release of Cruz's endorsement video, Turks also released to the market its newest offering --- Turks Rice Bowl, which is a complete meal. You can choose beef or chicken for your rice topping, and it is priced at Php50. The Small Pita Doner, on the other hand, is priced at Php35.

Turks continues to improve its menu and offerings to satisfy the discriminating taste of its loyal patrons according to Zenarosa.

Indeed, John Lloyd Cruz is the right fit for this endorsement. He now joins the roster of endorsers of Turks such as Piolo and Inigo Pascual.

Kids Eat for Free in Bonchon!

Our family seldom goes to the mall or dines out in a restaurant. We are homebodies and enjoy one another's company by chatting, having a movie or Koreanovela marathon, and indulging in home-cooked meals. Aside from being frugal, the reason why dining out or going to a crowded place is the least priority and most of the time, not an option is that Bunso, aside from being autistic, has also sensory perception disorder. He tends to feel stressed when exposed to load sounds. He is very particular with certain food textures that makes him a picky eater. He feels uneasy while staying in a place unfamiliar to him. He is oversensitive with his surroundings. At this point, we are still in a process of waiting. We are waiting patiently for his readiness to be tolerant of his stressors and possess a longer attention span.

Last Saturday, before Paps and our two boys went out they decided to meet me at Bonchon Chicken in the afternoon. Kuya was telling me constantly for the entire week that he was craving for Bonchon Chicken.
